Retention Requests
SB 1697 enacted a Parental Option for Student Retention, which allows parents or guardians to opt to have their child repeat prekindergarten;
- enroll in prekindergarten if the child was eligible to enroll in prekindergarten in the previous school year and has not yet enrolled in kindergarten;
- repeat kindergarten;
- enroll in kindergarten if the child would have enrolled in kindergarten in the previous school year and has no yet enrolled in first grade;
- for grades one through three, repeat the grade the student was enrolled in the previous school year;
If you are interested in requesting Student Retention, you must contact Dr. Veonda Emholtz. All requests must be submitted prior to 4:00 p.m. on August 1.
Process
1. Parent/Guardian and student decide that repeating an allowed course or grade level is appropriate for the student.
2. Parent completes the form (link above) and submits the information.
3. Campus will receive the form and review the information.
- If the campus agrees with the request, they will make the requested schedule change.
- If the campus does not agree with the request, they will form a review committee which includes the parent.
- The parent will meet with the committee, the campus will communicate their concerns.
- If the parent agrees with the committee, no further action is necessary.
- If the parent does not agree with the committee, they will request that the school process the request and update the student schedule.
